This afternoon while doing some pondering in the hymn book during the sacrament I read through Hymn #208, O Little Town of Bethlehem. I wonder how many people in that little town knew of the incredible event transpiring that night long, long ago. The last line of the first verse of this song reads, "The hopes and fears of all the years Are met in thee tonight."
How many of us find hope in this Christmas holiday? How many of us let our fears, whether great or small, keep us from recognizing the monumental birth in a humble stable? How blessed we are to be alive the Earth today. How great for us that over 2000 years ago, the Son of God was born to this Earth to provide a place for all of our hopes and all of our fears to be met.
As the final line of the song reminds us, "Where meek souls will receive him, still The dear Christ enters in.". May we all take a few minutes this holiday season to ponder the blessings that are ours, to be meek like little children, and allow Christ to enter into out lives.
Happy Holidays
